Fathers and Sons

Yevgeny Bazarov, a young nihilist, arrives with Arkady Kirsanov at his family’s estate. His beliefs clash with those of the older generation, particularly Pavel Kirsanov’s views on honor, culture, and public duty. Beneath their outward disagreements over principles and ideology, a deeper conflict gradually emerges: between the desire to dismantle the old order and the impossibility of fully freeing oneself from human emotions, attachments, and inner contradictions. Bazarov also falls in love with Anna Odintsova. Confronted with a feeling that cannot be explained by his own convictions, he is forced to reconsider his understanding of himself and his beliefs.
