Friday

Privacy Policy

Effective August 16, 2026

Who we are

Friday (letswatchonfriday.com) is a movie and TV rating and social app: you rate and rank what you’ve seen, get personalized recommendations, see what friends are watching, and message other members. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Information we collect

  • Account information. Your email address, first and last name, username, and — depending on how you sign in — a password (stored only in hashed form by our authentication provider) or magic-link sign-in records.
  • Profile and activity. Your profile photo, the titles you rate and how you rank them, your watchlist/queue, the streaming services you select, and the members you follow or who follow you.
  • Messages. Direct messages and group chats you send and receive on Friday.
  • Imported data. If you connect or import your Letterboxd history, the ratings and titles in that import.
  • Giveaway entries. Anything you provide to enter a giveaway or receive a prize (for example, contact details for delivering movie tickets).
  • Usage and device data. Pages you view within the app, and standard technical data like browser type and device information, collected via cookies and similar technologies.

How we use your information

  • To operate Friday — accounts, ratings, feeds, and messaging.
  • To build your taste profile and generate personalized movie and TV recommendations.
  • To power social features, like showing your ratings and activity to people who follow you.
  • To send service notifications and our newsletter — creating an account subscribes you to the newsletter, and you can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any issue.
  • To run giveaways you choose to enter.
  • To understand usage, improve the product, and fix problems.
  • To keep Friday safe and enforce our Terms of Use.

AI features

Some features — like asking @Friday what to watch — are powered by a third-party AI provider (Anthropic). When you use them, the text of your request and relevant context (such as your ratings) may be processed by that provider to generate a response. Please don’t include sensitive personal information in AI prompts.

What other people can see

Friday is a social app, so parts of your profile are visible to others by design: your name, username, profile photo, ratings and rankings, and follow relationships are visible to other Friday members. Your profile page and individual title pages can also be viewed by anyone with the link, including people who are not signed in. Messages are visible only to the participants of the conversation.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run Friday:

  • Supabase — database, authentication, and storage.
  • Vercel — application hosting.
  • Anthropic — AI-powered features, as described above.
  • Meta — we use the Meta Pixel on our marketing pages to measure the effectiveness of our advertising.
  • Substack — our newsletter, if you subscribe to it.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (in which case this policy would continue to apply to your information).

Movie and TV metadata on Friday comes from third-party sources (TMDB and OMDb); displaying that content does not involve sharing your personal information with them.

Cookies

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in. If you pick streaming services or a region without an account, a cookie holds a random device ID so we can remember those choices; it stores nothing else about you. On our marketing pages in production, the Meta Pixel may set cookies used for advertising measurement. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though blocking essential cookies will prevent sign-in from working.

Data retention and deletion

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can permanently delete your account and associated personal information — including your ratings, watchlist, profile, and messages (even those already sent to other people) — directly in the Friday iOS app under Settings → Delete account. Deletion takes effect immediately. If you use Friday on the web only, email us at team@letswatchonfriday.com and we’ll process the request. Some information may persist in backups for a limited period before being purged.

Security

We use industry-standard safeguards to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and access controls that restrict data access to your authenticated session. No online service can guarantee perfect security, but we work to protect your data and will notify you as required by law if a breach affects you.

Children

Friday is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we’ll update the effective date above and take reasonable steps to notify you, such as a notice in the app.
